Off the Beaten Path: Discovering Summerland's Remote Camping Spots
Both Agur Lake and Crump Camping Sites embody the spirit of off-grid camping in Summerland, providing different levels of remoteness and challenge. These spots are perfect for seasoned campers and those looking to explore less commercialized parts of the region.
Agur Lake Campsites: A Wilderness Retreat
Agur Lake Campsites offers a true escape into nature, located just west of Summerland. This secluded spot is ideal for those looking to unplug and unwind amidst the rustic beauty of British Columbia's outdoors. The lake itself, surrounded by marshy shores and plenty of sandy areas, provides a serene setting perfect for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility.
Reaching Agur Lake
Accessing Agur Lake Campsites involves a bit of adventure. After heading west from Summerland on Bathville Road, you'll pass the charming Kettle Valley Steam Railway, then journey 12.6 km up McNulty Forest Service Road. A left turn onto Agur Lake Forest Service Road (also known as Liddel FSR) leads you 3.3 km further to the site access road. The final 300 metres require a 4WD vehicle, as the path can be rough and challenging, but the destination is well worth the effort. Once there, you can enjoy basic amenities such as a boat launch, tables, and toilets, ensuring a comfortable yet rustic camping experience.
Crump Camping Site: Overlooking History
For those intrigued by history and natural beauty, Crump Camping Site offers a unique vantage point over the old Kettle Valley Railway line. Located just off the Princeton-Summerland Road, this site provides an elevated view that captures the essence of the region's historical and scenic landscapes.
Facilities and Access
Crump Camping Site hosts 11 campsites, accessible by a 2.7 km gravel road leading off from Prairie Valley Road via the Princeton-Summerland Road. While the journey is less intense compared to Agur Lake, the road's gravel section requires careful driving. The campsite offers essential facilities including picnic tables and toilets. However, it's important to note that there is no water source nearby, so campers must bring their own water supply. This adds to the adventure, allowing for a more self-sufficient style of camping.
Planning Your Stay
With no fees and the immersive, natural environments both sites promise memorable camping experiences away from the usual tourist tracks. Whether you're after a peaceful retreat by a lake or a scenic campsite with historical views, Summerland’s lesser-known campsites offer the perfect setting for your next outdoor adventure.
