Introduction

The Summerland Yacht Club (SYC) was founded in 1952 and is a thriving community of around 200 members who enjoy a range of boating activities on Okanagan Lake. With a season that runs from March to the end of October, SYC is the perfect place for boating enthusiasts.

Events and Activities

Giant’s Head Regatta

One of SYC's most anticipated events is the Giant’s Head Regatta, held in early August. This event kicks off Okanagan Race Week and attracts members from every Yacht Club and marina on the lake. It's a lively competition that showcases the best of local sailing talent.

Social Events

SYC isn't just about racing. The club hosts various social events throughout the year, including Lift In/Out days, Dock Parties, the Commodore’s Ball, and the popular Members Wine and Cheese Night. This event is a great way for members to mingle and enjoy some local wine and cheese. The SYC Commodore's Ball is another highlight, with the next one planned for June. This formal event is a wonderful opportunity for members to dress up and celebrate together. These gatherings provide opportunities for members to socialize and enjoy the active community spirit.

Facilities and Services

Docks and Utilities

SYC boasts four docks, three of which are equipped with 20 amp service and city water. Near the secure gated entrance, members can access a shower and washroom building. The club is open seven days a week during the summer, ensuring members have plenty of opportunities to enjoy their boats.

Boathouse Bar and Grill

The Boathouse Bar and Grill is a favourite spot for members and their guests. It offers delicious meals both indoors and on the patio, providing a perfect place to relax after a day on the water. While the bar and grill are closed for the winter, they reopen in the spring with a full menu.

Gas Bar Services

For convenience, SYC offers a gas bar with premium fuel, snacks, ice, cold beverages, ice cream, and icy fruit treats. Additional amenities include showers, restrooms, and a holding tank pump-out service. These facilities ensure that all boating needs are met efficiently.

Membership and Fees

Regular Membership

SYC is always looking for new members. Regular membership requires a non-refundable initiation fee of $2,500, with annual dues of $428. This includes a $268 membership fee and a $160 volunteer hours fee, which is refundable with each hour volunteered. Moorage fees are $38 per foot, with a minimum charge of $836.

Sponsored Membership

For jointly-owned vessels, SYC offers sponsored memberships. One owner must be a regular member, while the second owner can become a sponsored member. This membership allows independent access to SYC facilities and the jointly owned vessel. The annual dues and capital improvement fund levy are the same as for regular members.

Reciprocal Moorage

SYC members enjoy cruising the 80 km length of Okanagan Lake, using reciprocal moorage at six other yacht clubs. This benefit makes it easy for members to explore the lake while having access to amenities at various points.

So if you're ready to join an exciting boating community, then apply for membership at Summerland Yacht Club and start enjoying the many benefits and activities available.
