Kickininee Provincial Park, located just north of Penticton along Highway 97, is a breathtaking destination that offers some of the most spectacular sunset views over Okanagan Lake. Though modest in size, these areas are perfect for visitors who appreciate tranquil settings and unobstructed lake vistas.

Park Amenities and Landscape

Scenic Picnic Spots and Natural Terrain

Kickininee Provincial Park operates mainly from April 19 to October 15, but remains accessible year-round, with vehicle access limited by boulders during the winter months. The park lacks developed trails but there are strolling areas and it doesn't fall short on stunning natural scenery. At the Kickininee site, visitors can find two tiers of picnic areas. The upper level, accessible from a paved parking area with 44 spots, features four picnic tables set on an open lawn shaded by deciduous trees. A wide gravel path leads to a lower tier, a flat bench of land that boasts an excellent lake overview and nine more picnic tables. A shorter and steeper path from here takes you down to a rocky beach, ideal for those looking to feel the lake's breeze up close.

The natural landscape is dotted with Ponderosa pine, sagebrush, and bunchgrass, providing a rustic backdrop to your picnic or photography session. For swimming enthusiasts, buoys mark a designated area in the lake, ensuring a safe water experience. Each site within the park is equipped with small flush toilet buildings available during the summer and pit toilets for off-season use.

Guidelines and Considerations

Ensuring a Respectful and Safe Visit

While enjoying Kickininee Provincial Park, visitors are reminded to keep pets on a leash at all times and note that animals are not allowed on the beach or inside park buildings. Responsible pet ownership includes disposing of pet waste properly to maintain the park’s cleanliness and ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors. Additionally, the park's backcountry areas are not recommended for pets due to potential wildlife encounters and the presence of bears.

Whether you’re capturing the perfect sunset shot, enjoying a serene picnic, or just taking in the stunning views of Okanagan Lake, Kickininee Provincial Park offers a peaceful escape from town. Its natural charm and strategic location make it an ideal spot for those seeking a quiet refuge and memorable lakefront moments.
