At Dickinson Family Farm, the U-Pick experience in July lets visitors handpick fresh cherries straight from the orchard’s trees, creating a personal connection to the fruit. With six different varieties of cherries grown on over 100 trees, there’s plenty of selection for those looking to enjoy the sweetest and juiciest cherries of the season. The U-Pick experience is perfect for families and individuals who want to spend time outdoors, immersed in the farm atmosphere, while enjoying the satisfaction of harvesting their own fruit. It’s a fun and rewarding way to support local farming and enjoy the freshest cherries possible.
The Legacy of the Dickinson Family Farm
The Dickinson Family Farm was established in 1912, just a decade after the founding of Summerland. With determination and the help of other English families, they transformed rocky land into a flourishing apple orchard. Over the years, the knowledge of running a successful orchard was passed down through generations, from father to son.
Frank Dickinson Sr. farmed the land until his son Frank took over after returning from World War II. By 1965, the next generation began expanding the operation, and over time, the family cultivated nearly 100 acres of orchards in Summerland. The family built their own packinghouse in 1992, and today the farm is still operated by the Dickinsons, continuing the family legacy.
